• Therapeutic approach

Have you ever heard the saying "the mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master?" I can help you learn to not follow your every thought as if it is a command, and to be more connected to the present moment.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a behavioral model of Therapy, similiar to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or Dialetical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).  However, where CBT and DBT tell us we can stop our negative thoughts from happening, ACT accepts we will always have some degree of negative thinking.

We address these negative thoughts in two ways.  The first is through Mindfulness.  I don’t mean mindfulness in the way of meditation or yoga, but in the sense of awareness.  Intentional awareness of our patterns of thinking and feeling.  The second is Values, values meaning what is most important to us as individuals to serve as our guiding compass and help us make important decisions.  So we find that if we can focus less on the negative patterns, and more on what is actually important to us, we start to live more fulfilling lives.

Integrity, Humility, Benevolence, and Community

Integrity, humility, benevolence, and community are the core values of my practice. As your therapist, I will help you identify your own core values and what is most important to you. Once we know what is most important, we can nourish those areas while changing how you relate to unhelpful thinking patterns. I believe therapy is about repairing relationships, whether to food, to your body, to others or with yourself.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Values

are the underlying driving force in our lives, what is truly important and meaningful to us. Values provide direction for our lives and help us to make important decisions.

  • Mindfulness

techniques keep you focused on the moment at hand, instead of dwelling on the past or future tripping.

  • Committed Action

is the willingness to make values-driven choices and act upon them.  It is action that you take over and over despite resistance or failure.
