Have you ever heard the saying "the mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master?" Many people find themselves caught in patterns of thought that feel automatic and hard to step away from. I can help you learn how to step back from your thoughts instead of following them as commands, and become more connected to the present moment.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a behavioral approach to therapy similar to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). However, where CBT and DBT focus on changing or reducing negative thoughts, ACT recognizes that some degree of difficult thinking is a normal part of being human.
Rather than trying to eliminate these thoughts, we change how you relate to them. This happens in two main ways. The first is through mindfulness. Not mindfulness as meditation or yoga, but as intentional awareness of your patterns of thinking and feeling. The second is values, meaning what matters most to you and what you want your life to stand for. These values serve as a compass to guide your decisions.
As you learn to focus less on unhelpful thought patterns and more on what truly matters, your life can begin to feel more intentional and fulfilling.

From there, we focus on strengthening those areas while changing how you relate to unhelpful thinking patterns. At its core, therapy is about repairing relationships, whether with food, your body, others or yourself.
